Cookies for Congress
Every year in August/September, we set up 36 Cookies For Congress, one for each congressional district in Texas. We then post them on our calendar as the Congressmen confirm their time slots. Some of them do not allow us to visit. So keep an eye on our calendar to see if there is one in your district.
We ask homeschoolers to bring cookies. The staff have a presentation/lesson for the kids to learn about what a Congressman does. Some Congressmen will be there, others will not, depending on their schedule. Yes, the children can ask questions. We view this as an educational field trip for their good citizenship requirements as they learn about what a congressman does. The number of people is limited to the size of the various offices, we will limit the sign ups to their number, so signing up when your district is listed is encouraged.
