It is an historic day for Houston homeschoolers! Today, four 2011 Houston area homeschool graduates will face each other in a battle to see which team will play the top seed in hopes of advancing to the NAIA College World Series. Joshua Boothe and Nathan Falkenstine play for the University of Houston Victoria. Reagan Rutledge and Michael Wurster play for Bellhaven University. In high school, Joshua played for the West Houston Thunder, Nathan played for the HCYA Eagles, and Reagan and Michael played for the Montgomery Mustangs.
This opening round tournament in Jackson, Mississippi is one of nine nation-wide venues where the teams from each of their twenty two conferences face each other to determine who will advance to the NAIA College World Series in Idaho the end of this month.
What makes today’s match up so unique and special to Houston homeschoolers is that these four boys – who faced each other during four years of homeschool high school baseball – will once again face each other today. With literally hundreds of teams nation-wide, the likelihood of these four facing each other was extremely remote. And yet here we are.
The above picture was taken last night. I hope to post a photo of the four boys in their prospective uniforms today, but wanted to get the four together just in case it didn’t work out. Pictures (l-r) are Nathan Falkenstine, Michael Wurster, Joshua Boothe and Reagan Rutledge.
