Texas Home Educators (THE) is a statewide homeschool service organization. We are here to serve you as you start your adventure—with advice from experienced Texas homeschool moms, practical “how to begin” guidance, and real ways to get connected so you do not have to figure everything out by yourself.
This post opens a season of encouragement: how to start, how to find events and people across Texas, and why membership and belonging help THE keep serving families. Let’s begin where you are.
You do not have to have it all figured out
Homeschooling in Texas is wonderfully flexible—and that flexibility can feel like standing in a huge library with no map. New families often ask the same questions:
- What do I actually need to do to begin?
- How do I know what my child needs this year?
- Where do other moms find co-ops, activities, and encouragement?
- Is there a place for military families who may only be in Texas for a season?
Those are not “beginner” questions. They are smart questions. The goal this week is not a perfect year. It is a clear next step—and a hand to hold while you take it.
Start here: THE’s Get Started path
On texashomeeducators.org, look for Get Started (and How to Start Homeschooling). That path is built for families who are considering homeschooling or who just said yes and need to know what matters first.
Think of it as your calm checklist, not a lecture:
- Read the Get Started guidance so you know the basics of beginning in Texas without drowning in every blog post on the internet.
- Name your season. Are you withdrawing mid-year? Starting kindergarten at home? Homeschooling one child while others stay in school? Your “why” shapes your “how.”
You are creating an individual education for your child. Advice from moms who have walked this road is not about impressing anyone—it is about helping you breathe and move forward.
